There are various levels in the range of the medical transcription profession. It might range from a single individual to a large multinational company. For example, the transcriber could be a single person sitting at his home or office desk, collecting tapes or discs and converting them into a word document. It could also be a huge company that hires thousands of such professional transcribers, has a company building, with its branches extending all over the world, where millions of tapes and discs are simultaneously processed by sophisticated, high technology gadgets that transcribe the voice content of the tapes or discs into word content.

The eligibility for medical transcription job is not that overwhelming. It doesn't require much technical knowledge and proficiency. A fair knowledge of medical terminology and a good affinity with listening and writing would do the job. A person skilled in listening and writing skills, with a bit of brushing up on medical terms can be considered very much eligible for the post of a medical transcriber. The salary for a medical transcriptionist is also very good, with the entry level salary being Rs. 5000 per month (in India).
